Yoga for Skin Health

If you think that yoga is only about staying fit, you will be surprised to learn how yoga can improve your skin health. But don’t expect your skin to start looking better after a few yoga sessions. You need to practice regularly to see the results.

Yoga not only helps to reduce inflammation and fix damaged cells of your skin but there is a lot more to discover today.

8 Ways In Which Yoga Can Help To Make Your Skin Healthier

Let’s have a look at the eight ways in which yoga can help our skin to glow.

1.      Inflammation

Inflammation occurs when our bodies respond to an injury, illness, infection, etc. The reactions can cause many problems to our health as well as our skin.

For example, when I suffered from psoriasis, my whole body, plus my skin, was filled with scaly patches. Come to think of it. My condition probably wouldn’t have been so severe if I had been practicing yoga regularly.

Anyhow according to researchers, yoga reduces the production of inflammation. This, in turn, helps to keep our skin healthy and also fights against inflammation in the skin.

2.      Helps To Relax

Right now, I look much older than I am because of my stressful life. Not only has the stress affected me physically, but my skin has lost its glow, and I often suffer other problems.

That’s why a friend of mine suggested that I attend yoga sessions. She explained that the combination of stretching, focusing, and deep breathing helps to lower stress levels, which also promotes healthy skin.

Since yoga is known to reduce stress levels and relaxes our mind this also means that it helps us to sleep better. When we get enough rest, our skin will look fresh and vibrant.

3.      Increase Blood Circulation

Yoga involves a variety of physical movements and breathing techniques. This, in turn, helps to increase blood circulation, which brings more nutrients and oxygen to our skin.

Some of the yoga poses that help to promote blood circulation under our skin are the shoulder stand, child’s pose, and triangle pose.

An increase in blood flow will get rid of toxins in our bodies and help our skin to look more healthy.

4.      Healthy Diet

My medical dermatologist always used to tell me to have a healthy diet to get better skin. But as you know, I live to eat, and therefore, the concept of dieting was something I never really embraced until I started attending yoga classes.

Not only does yoga calm our brains, but it also nourishes our bodies; this can be done by eating balanced meals every day.

Since changing to yoga, I have consumed many fruits and vegetables. This has, in turn, assisted me in attaining my weight loss goal and making my skin have a healthy and bright color.

5.      Fixes Damaged Cells

Since yoga involves deep breathing it makes our lungs accommodate more oxygen. As a result, blood can reach our skin cells much more quickly. This helps our skin to heal much more rapidly from cell damage that could be caused by too much exposure to the sun.

6.      Clear Skin

Yoga helps our bodies to gain energy as our toxins and impurities are released with sweat. Since acne and pimples are caused by toxins, sweating these out during yoga sessions will help to remove dirt and toxins from our pores. Which should help us get clear and healthy skin.

7.      Decreases Cortisol

For those of you who don’t know what Cortisol is, let me explain. Cortisol refers to releasing a stress hormone that can have negative effects on your skin. Cortisol makes your body less immune, which could cause acne, inflammation, and other skin diseases.

But since yoga helps our bodies and minds to relax, our cortisol levels are likely to decrease, too, which means less stress and healthier skin.

8.      Confident Looking Skin

Yoga not only helps a person be fit physically but also gives the individual some time to de-stress themselves and gain confidence. I assure you the more involved you get, the more you accept yourself and feel at ease in your skin.

Yoga is effective for the skin as it helps in reducing inflammation and the flow of blood. This lets your skin become shiny, healthy, and cleared up.
